Origin of Salad Caesar - Tijuana Downtown

Salad Caesar was invented somewhere you never would have probably guessed: Mexico, Tijuana.

Let us take you to the restaurant, where this world-famous dish was born !

The salad's creation is generally attributed to restaurateur Caesar Cardini, an Italian immigrant who operated restaurants in Mexico.  His daughter Rosa (1928-2003) remembered that her father invented the salad when 4th July in 1924 depleted the kitchen's supplies. Cardini had to do with what he had left in the kitchen, adding the dramatic flair of the table-side tossing "by the chef."  This was when the Caesar's salad was invented.

Nowadays, Caesar's Restaurant is considered as one of the "101 best Hotel Restaurants in the World" according to a list by The Daily Meal - a website focused on food and drinks throughout the world.

Do not miss the opportunity to dine in this restaurant, not only to eat the famous salad but to enjoy  the unique atmosphere as well.

Tamarindo Margarita is also something which should not be missed.

Located in the downtown of Tijuana, you will get to see where the locals go to have a drink with expats.

According to Rosa Cardini, the original Caesar salad did not contain pieces of anchovy. The slight anchovy flavor comes from the Worcestershire sauce. Cardini was opposed to using anchovies in his salad.

The chef will prepare the salad according to the original recipe in front of you.

There is even a festival in honor of the famous salad where it is celebrated with amazing flavors and a great ambiance.

Bottled Caesar dressings are now produced and marketed by many companies.

Many variations of the salad exist, for example, by topping a Caesar salad with grilled chicken, steak, or seafood. Some Mexican restaurants may improvise on items such as substituting tortilla strips for croutons or Cotija cheesefor the Parmesan.
